Testimonials

“Mary is fantastic to work with and I would highly recommend her for any writing/editing project. She is rigorous and strategic in her thinking, and as a plain English champion she’ll make sure your information is clear and easily understood.”

— Andrea Jones, Dunedin City Council

“Mary has been a dream to work with; her writing is insightful and clear, she offers great solutions and initiatives and delivers impeccable work, usually under unreasonable time constraints. We are very lucky to have had Mary work with us and recommend her fabulous skills and knowledge very highly.”

— Sharon O’Loughlin, Enterprise Dunedin

“Mary, when nothing made sense, you made it all make sense. Every single week, I could count on you to save us from embarrassing mistakes and contradictory headlines.”

— Josie Cochrane, Critic editor 2015

“Felix’s meticulous reading of my PhD thesis revealed errors to which my over-familiarity with the text had long since blinded me. Moreover, his fine-grained proofreading and thorough nomenclature checks did much to ease my anxieties at the eve of submission. The service was uniformly professional, expeditious, pleasant, and enormously beneficial. Consequently, I would heartily recommend the services of Little Red Pen!”

— Sean Whiting, Melbourne Law School

“Mary has been instrumental to us in the development of the Dunedin Diversity Strategy. This has been a challenging document to produce, requiring many disparate voices, ideas and politics to be summed up in a cohesive strategy. Mary has been incredibly patient and generous with us as we have struggled to develop and edit the content. What we have formed together is historic and has the potential to improve people’s lives. We thank Mary for her professionalism and attention to detail, which have enabled us to create this strategy.”

— Neill Ballantyne, Dunedin Diversity Working Group

“Mary helped me to reduce the complication in my writing to ensure the important messages get heard by a wider audience. Mary is awesome to work with and genuinely cares about what she does.”

— Tom Dyer, Dunedin City Council

“Mary has helped me immeasurably by reading and commenting on my entire PhD thesis, one chapter at a time. Her comments were made in such a constructive way that I found it easy to adapt my writing style and practice in response to her excellent suggestions. As a writing expert, Mary has a unique capacity to display an acute awareness of the boundaries of what made good editing sense, and the ability to ask direct, straight-to-the-point questions about content to help me clarify what I am trying to say, even when the material is not in her field of expertise.”

— Dr Penelope Hayes, Melbourne

“Mary gave insightful advice on my website at just the right moment. With her rare combination of good sense and an excellent command of language, she helped me transform my well-turned-out copy into something with flair and polish.”

— Maria McMillan, Search Strategy

“Mary has given me timely and ‘spot on’ advice both in the preparation of a thesis and in the crafting of covering letters and CVs when applying for jobs. Technically expert, Mary’s feedback is both to the point and insightful. Her careful editing and intelligent input raise the bar, greatly improving the final product. I thoroughly recommend Mary’s services to anyone who is committed to getting the best out of themselves.”

— Emmeline Haymes, Nutritionist (Reg.)

“Copy editing a fiction manuscript is an art — not a science. No independent author can afford not to have input from a professional copy editor like Mary. We were impressed with the way that Mary was sensitive to our need to retain the unique language and speech patterns of our characters.”

— Lambert Nagle, Revolution Earth

Workshops

A necessity for my role, there are so many skills delivered in the workshop, instantly relevant!

Mary pitched the material at a level across all attendees; an excellent facilitator, with expertise and passion for her craft.

I’ve always struggled with ‘verbosity’ in my written work, but this training has allowed me to recognise that’s OK as long as you allow enough time to review, rework and adjust accordingly.

Clear, concise communication of the nuts and bolts that are often overlooked in writing.

Useful for both ‘writing for work’ and for ‘writing at home’.
